    I'm still alive
The 2nd jump went really well this morning, despite my having been up since like 4.30 (grumble grumble insomnia grumble).

This time it was more exhilarating, especially when I exited the plane - I could see the ground below me and had time to savor the feeling of just falling through nothing, tumbling over and over, before we stabilized in the correct position.

I had the same tandem instructor as last time, and I made it clear that I was not scared and was up for any acrobatics he cared to try while in harness with me. So after we stabilized in freefall, he spun us around several times and apparently I did well at holding my arms and arching my body right - he gave me the thumbs-up a lot. This dude has been skydiving since 1970 and is an ex-Green Beret, and I really like him. When I told him that I wanted to take the training to become certified, he seemed to respect that and told me a lot of stuff about how to store a parachute and take care of your equipment, and some stories about dives he made in the military, etc - it was really cool. We didn't get to twirl around and play with the parachute much this time because the plane dropped us into the wrong side of the wind, or something, and we had to concentrate on landing close to the target area.

Then I spent the rest of the day working and about 3 p.m. had The Allergy Attack from Hell, which is still going on. I can't breathe through my nose at all and my whole face itches on the inside. I often joke about being allergic to work, and i KNOW i'm allergic to something in my office building, but jeez. A few hours in the office usually isn't enough to do THIS to me.

Anyway --- to those of you who knew I was skydiving again, I'm safe and sound. To those who didn't (or who didn't know about the 1st jump, LOL), I'm safe and sound.

    All things are ready...
    Thou fierce gentle Lady
    All in black,

    Mother of destruction, creation, love,
The feast is ready to begin.

    Your table is set
    With the blood of pomegranates
Split open by blade like sacrifices
Giving their life, the seeds of rebirth,
So that we might eat and nourish our blood.

The walls of your holy temple
Are hung in the colors of your country:
Green and gold, red and white,
    Black and black and black.

    The altar is prepared
With fresh flowers and dried spices
    For prayer and devotion.

    The songs are composed,
    Songs of joy and praise,
Ready for human voice to give them life.

    My necklace of skulls
Is in my hands, my prayers
    Already on my lips.

Let us eat. Let us consume.
    Let us communicate.
    Let us commune.

    Just on the other side
    Are our beloved dead,
    Who know our names
Even as their names are on our tongues.

    Beloved ones,
I have seen you in this life,
A poor reflection in a mirror, Mortality.

I wait to see you again, face to face,
    And to truly know
    As I also am known.

    Thingy on Sunday
OK, this is as close to an official invite as my tired self is gonna give,

If you can, want to, and are able, come to my house around 5 p.m.-ish this Sunday 11-8-09 (assuming I survive the sky dive and am not in the hospital or anything, ha ha). Bring either meat or something that reminds you of blood/the blood harvest? (i will have pomegranates), and be prepared to celebrate blood/life/death/your beloved dead and Kali. I don't know quite what's gonna happen or how long it's gonna last (probably not very long?) or how formal it will be, but I know FOR SURE there will be singing/chanting and eating involved.

If you want, bring a floor cushion or folding chair, but I have a feeling we may have enough seats for everyone.

Invite absolutely anyone who you want to who you think would like it.

You don't have to RSVP, but if you aren't there by 5.30-ish and I haven't heard from your butt, I'm turning off the phone and we are starting without you. :) Sound fair?

OAN --- several of you have told me you will either be there or are planning to be there, but just so we're clear, this is the kind of thing I would/will? do completely on my own even if no one was there with me, so if you can't make it, don't sweat it.

    My Little Soul...
    My little light
    Is going to shine
    Shine out so bright
    And illuminate your mind

    My little soul
    Will leave a footprint

    This little voice
    Is going to sing
    I have no choice
    It will infinitely ring

    My little soul
    Will leave a footprint

    I'm channeling the universe
It's focusing its love inside of me
    A singularity

    My little words
    Are going to sting
    Haven't you heard
The pain and joy they bring?

    My little soul
    Will leave a footprint

    I'm channeling the universe
It's focusing its love inside of me
    A singularity

    Your little eyes
    They're going to see
    I can't disguise
    The beauty inside me

    My little soul
    Will leave a footprint

    Emily's birthday...
Emily's birthday came and went. October 24th, 1979, 12 days after mine ... I know she is resting in peace. I had waxing and a party and band practice, and .... was too busy to think much. But nevertheless, I did think about it.

Nothing I could do would commemorate this occasion properly, I feel, but doing nothing also seems out of the question.

I feel Called to host a seasonal ceremonial thingy that involves a lot of Kali Mama-Ji comfort/love, meat (yes, says the vegetarian), pomegranates/blood=life (there is a Hindi word for pomegranate that relates to their belief that that fruit is good for the blood ... and it IS high in iron), and a celebration of death ... including honoring our beloved dead. Maybe the weekend of Nov 7th. Stay tuned. Maybe that will be what I Need. I know Emily doesn't need it. But I do.

I still miss her, almost 2 years after her death, and I know I always will. The hole her death left will never be filled.

YOU KNOW YOU'RE INTO YAOI WHEN....
OK, bearing in mind that I haven't *seen* any official "yaoi" ... yet (my copy of the anime and the 1st 2 mangas of FAKE arrived last night, but I haven't had a chance to look at them), this is funny. I guess I am enough of a fan of boy-on-boy goodness and I have read lots of yaoi stories/fic lately, this was just funny to me.

You know you're into yaoi when you go to see Julie and Julia with your 2 best friends, there's a scene where the young heterosexual couple starts kissing, and your first INVOLUNTARY thought/comment is "Ach ... het."

In the series Fullmetal Alchemist, alchemists seek to understand and make use of the universal principles behind life, death, matter, energy, and change; they are scientists first, artists second --- and I am, too.

I see Life itself, my life, and especially my sobriety, as an act of alchemy - first, that perfectly ordinary and at the same time completely miraculous fusing of spirit, energy, and matter into this body ... then the substance of my very soul, WHO I AM, transmuted by-me-yet-not-by-me into something completely different - lead into gold - for "the same man will drink again".

This beautiful screencap (one of my 2 faves in the whole show) is from the pilot episode: there is a young girl being deceived by a priest who has convinced her he can bring back her dead boyfriend. In a fit of emotion, Ed, the main character, tears off his cape and shirt to show her part of the price HE paid for attempting to bring the dead back to life - he lost his right arm, which is now made of automail.

Even though he keeps his automail covered most of the time (long sleeves and gloves), he feels so upset by her plight and the priest's deception that he has to show her physical proof that she is being lied to, that bringing back the dead doesn't work, that she must move forward instead of dwelling on what is lost ... he says, "I told you, Rose ... Get too close to the sun and you burn."

    A song I really like
    "Lament" by The Cure

    Today there was a tragedy
    Underneath the bridge
A man walked cold and blue
    Into La Ment
    The sky coloured perfect
    As the man slipped away
Waving with a last vanilla smile

    Somewhere at a table
    Two drowned fools
Smoking, drinking water as they talked
Of how they loved our lady
And oh the smell as candles die

One more ice cream river body
    Flowed underneath the bridge
    Underneath the bridge

The river flow on my ice cream body
    Flowed underneath the bridge

    4:54 pm
poem ... not sure what to call it
    as I am once again
    puzzled by your actions, puzzled
    by my re-actions, stunned
by the presence of tears in a day that was so far
mere numb apathy, it occurs to me
    a picture

    finely detailed in my mind

    so clearly and sharply defined

a writhing, shapeless mass of scars
    on scars on scars,
    too thick to feel
    anything

    and

    a delicate gun
    barrels pointed inward
    all razorwires thin as thread
    and hairtriggers
    set to fire
    at the slightest touch

    both are one
    and both are me
